Your fall planting guide, a seasonal mindset shift, and reels to get you digging this week

QUOTE FROM THE HOMESTEAD

"The best time to plant was yesterday. The second best time is today."

— Chinese Proverb

HOMESTEAD TIP OF THE DAY

Start Seeds in the Shade
Late-summer heat can fry seedlings before they sprout. Start fall crops in a shady spot or under shade cloth, then transplant once the heat eases.
✅ Keeps soil cooler
✅ Improves germination rates

🥬 WHAT TO PLANT NOW FOR A FALL HARVEST

Fall gardening means crisp mornings, fewer pests, and sweeter veggies. August–early September is prime time for:

Leafy Greens: Lettuce, spinach, kale, Swiss chard
Root Veggies: Carrots, radishes, beets, turnips
Brassicas: Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts
Herbs: Cilantro, dill, parsley

💡 Tip: Check your seed packet’s “days to maturity” — pick varieties that mature in 60–75 days to beat frost.

💛 MINDSET MOMENT: SEASONAL RHYTHMS

Back-to-school, shorter days, cooler nights — it’s a shift in pace.
Parenting coach Dr. Laura Markham, author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids, says routines are the anchor in changing seasons.

Instead of adding more to your plate, try:
✅ Choosing one main homestead goal (e.g., “Plant fall greens”)
✅ Setting one consistent family routine (e.g., “Sunday soup night”)
✅ Letting go of one summer task you no longer need

Do less, better — it makes the transition smoother for everyone.

The garden teaches us that every season has its work — and its gifts.
Right now, the gift is a second chance to plant. A chance to grow again before the frost.

Grab your seeds, mama. The soil is waiting. 🌱
