7 Herbs That Belong in Every Pantry 🌱 + Level Up From Within ✨
Question of the day: What do you secretly dread harvesting?
NOTICE: Formerly known as The Steady Homestead, we’ve rebranded to The Homestead Movement! Same great content, just a fresh new name. 😊

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom."
— Patricia Sampson
HOMESTEAD TIP OF THE DAY
With longer daylight hours, this is a great time to install solar path or motion lights around the coop, barn, or garden. These lights charge during the day and provide safety and convenience at night without running electricity. Use them to illuminate animal pens, paths to the compost, or gate areas. Look for waterproof models with motion sensors or remote control for flexibility.

ALL THINGS HOMESTEAD
Simple Herbs That Belong in Every Homestead Kitchen 🌿
When your gut’s off, everything feels off… your energy, your sleep, your mood, even your skin. Homemakers and homesteaders know this firsthand. Gut health isn’t a trend here. It’s tradition.
Women on the land have turned to herbs for generations to soothe stomachs, calm nerves, and keep digestion moving. So, if your belly feels bloated, your meals sit too heavy, or your system’s been off since winter, this is for you.
Gut-Loving Herbs Every Homesteader Should Know
Ginger
Ginger supports healthy digestion and eases nausea. It gets things moving by helping with stomach muscle contractions. Use it grated in tea, sliced in broth, or dried and ground into spice blends.Peppermint
This cool herb relaxes the muscles in your gut and can calm bloating and stomach pain. Try it fresh in tea or as dried leaves in hot water after meals.Chamomile
Known for its soothing power, chamomile calms the stomach and reduces gas and acid. Drink it in tea form before bed to ease digestion and promote rest.Fennel
Fennel seeds help reduce gas, bloating, and stomach cramps. They also support regular bowel movements. Chew the seeds after meals or steep them into tea.Turmeric
The curcumin in turmeric fights inflammation and protects the gut lining. Add it to soups, golden milk, or rice dishes. Always pair with black pepper for best results.Licorice Root
Licorice protects the stomach lining and reduces reflux and irritation. It’s especially helpful when digestion feels raw. Use in small amounts as tea. Avoid if you have high blood pressure.
Gentle Helpers That Soothe and Coat
Slippery Elm
Slippery elm forms a soothing gel when mixed with water. It lines the digestive tract and calms irritation. It works well in warm water or powder form when your stomach feels sensitive.Marshmallow Root
Marshmallow is not sweet or fluffy, it’s a serious gut soother. It coats the lining of your intestines and reduces pain. Brew it in tea for long, slow sips when your gut feels inflamed or achy.
Strengtheners and Detoxifiers
Dandelion
Dandelion is more than a weed, it’s a liver and digestive supporter. It encourages regularity and helps bile flow. Use the root dried in tea or toss young greens into a salad.Elecampane
This lesser-known herb improves how your body breaks down and absorbs nutrients. It supports both digestion and lung health. Steep the root in tea or tincture it.Burdock Root
Burdock feeds the good bacteria in your gut and helps flush toxins. It’s especially helpful when digestion feels sluggish. Peel and boil fresh root in soups or simmer dried pieces into tea.Lemon Balm
This gentle herb calms the stomach and reduces gas and tension. It’s a friend to both your gut and your mood. Make a fresh tea or add it to water infusions for daily sipping.
What Homesteaders Understand
Homemakers don’t have time to be laid up with gut issues. Our health needs to hold.
So start with what you already have on hand. A jar of dried peppermint. A thumb of ginger. A sprig of lemon balm. That’s a start.
Could you afford $3,500 to remove a chew toy?
From $3,500 to remove a chew toy, to $7,000 for a hip replacement, keeping your pets healthy is getting more and more expensive. Fortunately, pet insurance can help offset these rising costs. Pet insurance can cover eligible accidents and illnesses with up to 90% reimbursement. Get your buddy covered today with plans starting at just $10 a month.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Stepping Into the You Who Already Has It ✨
Some of you are sitting at your kitchen tables wondering when that "big change" is coming. You want clarity now. The truth is: the woman you dream of being isn’t far off, she’s already whispering to you. You just need to start walking like her.
Here’s the deal. Those desires that tug on your heart while you’re tending to the sourdough starter or planting tomatoes? They’re not random. They’re little previews from your future self. She’s calling you forward, and now it’s your turn to listen.
Below are five powerful but doable steps you can take right now. Don’t wait for the perfect season. Start while the laundry’s running and the kids are napping.
1. Decide Who You Are (Right Now)
Don’t wait for everything to be in place to believe in yourself. Pick your new identity now.
Write down who you already are becoming. For example:
“I am a focused, grounded woman who runs her homestead with purpose and ease.”
Say it out loud. Stick it on the fridge. Start believing her.
2. Assume It’s Already Yours
Speak, move, and act like what you want is already part of your life.
Stop saying “I’m trying to get organized.” Try saying,
“I run a calm and well-ordered home.”
You shift your results by shifting your language. Walk like you already got there.
3. Drop Old Identity Clues
This part can sting a little. You’ve got to release the stuff that ties you to the old version of you.
That might mean deleting apps, unfollowing people who drain you, or tossing the clutter you’ve been stepping over for months. Let go of what no longer matches the life you’re stepping into.
4. Align Your Space
Your space should reflect the woman you’re becoming, not the one you’re shedding.
Tidy up your bedroom. Change your phone wallpaper to something that calms you. Adjust your kitchen flow to work better for how you actually cook. Every little shift supports your big identity change.
5. Show Up As Her Today
Ask yourself, “How would she dress, speak, or even respond to this email?”
Start small. Choose outfits that make you feel good even if no one sees you. Write that post with clarity and confidence. Speak like someone who means what she says. Those tiny actions become a new normal.
These Are the Breadcrumbs
Homesteaders and homemakers already know how to build from scratch. You know how to make something out of nothing. But sometimes, you forget you can do the same thing with who you are.
When you stop waiting and start embodying, your whole world starts to move. That dream version of you? She’s not just out there someday. She’s in you now. You just have to act like it.
So, pick up the breadcrumbs. Follow the pull. And watch what unfolds.
